Proscenic M8 PRO: flagship with lidar, self-cleaning and Y-shaped wet cleaning

Proscenic M8 Pro Other brands

Today we will review another robot vacuum cleaner with self-cleaning and wet cleaning functions. In 2021, more than ever, models appeared on the market. The model is called Proscenic M8 Pro and is the flagship of the company at the time of writing the review. So, with an average cost of about $500, the robot vacuum cleaner is able not only to self-clean, but also to perform both dry and wet cleaning, as well as to clean large areas. Thanks to lidar, the robot builds an accurate map of the room and opens all the useful functionality in the application, although it comes with a remote control for simplified use of the device. So further I will review and test the Proscenic M8 Pro in detail, after which I will express my own opinion whether this robot vacuum cleaner is worth buying. So let’s go!

Equipment

Let’s start with an overview of the package. The robot vacuum cleaner came in such a branded box:

Box

In addition to the robot itself and the station for unloading garbage, it contains:

  1. Power adapter.
  2. Wet cleaning nozzle with attached microfiber mop.
  3. Spare mopping pad.
  4. Remote control with batteries.
  5. Operating instructions translated into several languages.
  6. Quick start guide.
  7. Two spare bags for the station.
  8. Spare side brush.
  9. Spare filters (foam rubber and HEPA).
  10. Robot maintenance tool.

The kit is complete, there are all the necessary accessories for the operation of the robot vacuum cleaner. This is a plus.

Design

Now let’s have a look at how the the Proscenic M8 Pro is designed. To begin with, I will show the robot vacuum cleaner itself. It is round, dark gray, with a glossy lid. Case height is about 10 cm.

The lidar cover is spring-loaded. Thanks to this, the robot is protected from getting stuck under furniture. There are 2 mechanical buttons on the control panel: start / pause and forced return to the base for charging. Between them is a robot status indicator.

Control Panel

The combined container for water and garbage is located at the back, like in models Viomi S9 and Roidmi Eve Plus. It’s even identical in design. A curtain is installed inside, which prevents accidental spillage of debris when removing the container. The filtration system is triple: based on foam rubber, HEPA and mesh filter, this is a plus.

Combined container

Oh, by the way, the dust collector itself holds up to 280 ml of dry debris, while the tank is designed for 300 ml of water. Inside we see a pump for electronic adjustment of the wetting level of the mopping pad. The charging terminals are located on the back of the container. Under them is a curtain for unloading garbage from the dust collector into the garbage chute of the self-cleaning station. Water enters the mopping pad through 3 holes in the bottom of the tank.

Let’s see how the Proscenic M8 Pro is arranged from below. It has 4 fall protection sensors. The side brush is one, three-beam, quick-detachable. It is worth noting that the previous model Proscenic M7 Pro had 2 side brushes. Below we also see the terminals for charging the robot vacuum cleaner on a conventional base. The fact is that the Proscenic M8 version is also sold, without self-cleaning.

The central bristle-petal brush is of high quality. The pile is very dense, on both sides the brush is disassembled from wound hair and wool. This is a plus. The turbo brush module itself, by the way, is floating, which is also good.

Here is what the nozzle with a mopping pad looks like. The structure of the mopping pad is slightly different from the usual version. It is divided into two parts. The point is that such a mopping pad, in theory, should wash better than a regular one, because it soaks dirt with the wet part and wipes dry with the dry part! How it works in reality, we’ll see during the tests. The mopping pad is attached to the nozzle with Velcro and pockets.

So now as I showed you everything about robot design, let’s move on to review of a self-cleaning station. Here’s what it looks like:

Proscenic self-cleaning station
Proscenic self-cleaning station

The bag is installed in the usual way from above. It is worth highlighting the increased capacity of the bag compared to analogues. This bag holds up to 4.3 liters of dry waste, while at other stations the bags usually hold up to 3 liters of garbage. Another important point is that a control panel with indicators is located at the self-cleaning station. You can you visually check the battery condition, as well as return the robot cleaner to the station or start/pause a cleaning cycle if necessary. This is another advantage of the Proscenic M8 Pro compared to its competitors, although not significant.

The docking area of the station with the robot is not designed conveniently, because a lot of space is stolen to place the robot on the base. For example in Roidmi, the robot drives deeper into the station, and the napkin does not meet the floor. At the back of the base there is an air vent with a filter, which should be periodically pulled out and cleaned.

Overall, the build quality of the Proscenic M8 Pro is average or slightly above average. There are no complaints.

Specifications

The main characteristics of Proscenic M8 Pro, declared by the manufacturer:

  • Battery Li-Ion 5200 mAh.
  • Suction power up to 3000 Pa.
  • Power station for self-cleaning 1050 watts.
  • Operating time up to 250 min.
  • Cleaning area up to 320 sq.m.
  • The capacity of a dust collector is 280 ml.
  • The capacity of the water tank is 300 ml.
  • Passability of obstacles up to 20 mm.
  • Dimensions: 350*98 mm.

Here it is only important to highlight a slightly increased suction power compared to the previous model. 3000 Pa is a good indicator, but you need to check how much the declared value works in a real condition. Let’s check it in tests.

Functionality

Proscenic M8 Pro is controlled both through a mobile application and from the remote control. First, let’s look at the functionality of a branded mobile application. The robot vacuum cleaner connects to the network without problems.

App control
App control

On the main working panel, the robot vacuum cleaner builds a map of the room and automatically zones it into areas. Above the map are the main modes of operation:

  • Auto Clean is automatic cleaning;
  • PowerMop – Y-shaped wet cleaning mode;
  • Room Clean – selection of the necessary rooms for cleaning;
  • Area Clean – setting cleaning zones on the map (here it is important to note that you can set not only rectangular, but also polygonal cleaning zones, as well as select the number of robot passes: 1 or 2);
  • Spot Clean – local cleaning mode at a selected point on the map.

When working with the map, you can set restricted areas, not only rectangular, but also polygonal. Even separately for the wet cleaning mode, restricted areas are provided, which is a plus.

Additional features include searching for a robot vacuum cleaner by a sound signal, forced self-cleaning, adjusting the volume of voice alerts, turning on and off the indicator lights on the robot, as well as adjusting the suction power and the degree of wetting of the mopping pad.

Let’s go to the settings. The first section is the map editor. Here you can edit the boundaries of the rooms and set the number of robot passes in the rooms. You can also change the name of the rooms for the convenience of setting up scheduled cleaning.

Settings and functions
Settings and functions

In the Area Manager section, you can set cleaning zones on the map. When setting up cleaning according to the schedule, it is possible to choose not only the time, days of the week and the desired rooms, but also the cleaning parameters (suction power and degree of wetting of the mopping pad).

Also, in the settings you can turn on the do not disturb mode, view the cleaning log, share control with other users, track the status of consumables, select one of 6 languages of voice alerts, set the frequency of self-cleaning and choose manual control of the robot.

In principle, all the main functionality is presented. Additionally, it is worth noting that the Proscenic M8 Pro supports saving multiple maps in memory, automatically increases suction power when driving on carpets and continues cleaning after recharging at the base.

As for remote control, it duplicates such features as forced return to the base for charging, manual control of the buttons, start / pause, local cleaning mode, Y-shaped wet cleaning, turning off voice alerts, adjusting suction power and turning on the maximum power mode.

Testing

And finally, let’s move on to the tests.

First, let’s check the Proscenic M8 Pro’s navigation in the room with obstacles. The robot vacuum cleaner, after leaving the base, begins to pass the perimeter. The legs of the dryer turned out to be a trap for him, but nevertheless, the robot was able to overcome it and continue cleaning. After driving around the perimeter, the Proscenic M8 Pro starts cleaning the entire available area with a snake. It was able to sweep separately around all the legs of the chair and the box, after which, returned to the base. Test passed successfully!

Navigation within a room
Navigation within a room

There are also no complaints about navigation within the house. The robot vacuum cleaner cleans room after room with a snake, and then around the perimeter. There are no uncleaned areas left, the cleaning speed is high. So, we can say that navigation is good for this model.

Suction power

But the suction power is standard, despite the declared 3000 Pa. The Proscenic M8 Pro was only able to suck out debris from a 2mm gap, but this power will be enough to keep the house clean.

Dry cleaning on laminate

The quality of dry cleaning on the laminate is quite decent. The robot vacuum cleaner picked up all the debris from the floor. And in the corners, it sweeps well, compared to most other round robots. The side and center brushes are the main in the hair collection task, but most of the debris is still collected in the dust box.

Carpet cleaning

The quality of cleaning on the carpet is high, the robot was able to collect all the garbage, I have no complaints.

Self-cleaning quality

As for the quality of self-cleaning, it is average. A little garbage remains after unloading a filled container, but still the main part is unloaded.

Self-cleaning quality
Self-cleaning quality

For those who are interested, check out the recently released comparison test of self-cleaning robot vacuum cleaners from different brands. Proscenic M8 Pro also took part in this comparison. In that review we presented many more tests.

Mopping

The quality of wiping dried dirt on the laminate is also above average. The robot removed all footprints, leaving minor streaks and a strip along the plinth, which robot vacuum cleaners are currently unable to clean due to design features. At least when compared with all those that we had on the test. Well, as for the mopping pad, I did not notice much difference in the quality of wet cleaning, compared to a regular microfiber cloth.

Mopping
Mopping

In general, the quality of wet cleaning is at a good level and a big plus is that the Proscenic M8 Pro is able to simultaneously vacuum and mop the floor, as well as move along a Y-shaped path.

Passability of obstacles

With the passage of 2-centimeter sills, this robot copes without problems, so the passage ability of the robot is good.

Drive through dark surfaces

But Proscenic M8 Pro is afraid of dark surfaces, recognizing them as height differences. This is important to consider.

Noise level

And finally, we measure the noise level of the robot in different modes. In Eco mode, the noise level is about 60-61 dB, in standard mode it jumps up to 66 dB, at maximum power the noise level reaches 73 dB. Yes, the noise level is increased in this model, even though the suction power is standard.

Summing up

Proscenic M8 Pro was reviewed and tested in detail. In our rating system, it managed to score 75 out of 100 points, which is a good result considering the price. It is slightly inferior in points to the main competitors Viomi S9, Dreame Bot Z10 Pro and Roidmi Eve Plus, but it also has its strengths compared to these robots.

The overall rating of robot vacuum cleaners that have passed the Robotobzor test you can find on the link: https://robotobzor.ru/rejtingi/obshhij-rejting-robotov-pylesosov-robotobzor.html.

Among the advantages of this model, I would like to highlight:

  1. Good navigation.
  2. Simultaneous dry cleaning and moping.
  3. Remote control and mobile app.
  4. All core functionality is included.
  5. A self-cleaning station is provided.
  6. The quality of dry and wet cleaning is above average.
  7. Advanced wet cleaning in a Y-shaped pattern.
  8. Good equipment.
  9. Ability to overcome 2 cm sills.

However, there are also disadvantages. The main ones are:

  1. The robot vacuum cleaner is afraid of dark surfaces.
  2. Increased noise level during operation.
  3. Average self-cleaning quality.

In general, as you can see, the comments are not so critical, so there is no particular reason not to recommend this model. At the same time, the robot vacuum cleaner could not boast of something special. So, it’s already a matter of taste – if you liked the Proscenic M8 Pro or if there is a good discount on it when buying, then of course consider this option. But in my opinion, model Dreame Bot Z10 Pro is more interesting in this price segment, because. it has higher suction power and has an obstacle detection system.

On this note, I would like to end the review. if you have any questions, ask them in the comments below. Happy tech shopping, bye!
