Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro: new design, multifunctional station, full set

Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro Reviews

Hey guys, welcome to Robotobzor! Today, we’ll review the new Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro robot vacuum cleaner, the company’s highlight of 2023. This robot’s main feature is the D-shaped shape of the body, thanks to which it should better sweep out the corners. The engineers also slightly shortened the body, increased battery capacity, made the center brush longer, increased suction power and made the wipe lift more on carpets. The brush’s and station’s design has also been tweaked a bit. Overall, enough improvements have been made to improve this root’s efficiency. Now I’ll thoroughly test Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro, after which I’ll let you know if this robot is right for you! At the time of recording this video the price stands at 1065-1400$, which puts it up in the premium section. So now, don’t forget to like and subscribe, and let’s get rolling!

Regionality

First let’s talk about this model’s regionality. Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro is made both for the Chinese and the European market. On Aliexpress most often sell the Chinese version, like I have here.

Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro

There are several points here:

  1. First – to connect the robot to your phone you need a Chinese SIM card to register an account. As a rule, stores most often give ways to bypass this, but I just wanted to clarify. In the description of the video I left a link to a verified seller, from whom I bought the robot myself, and who provided all the necessary access to operate the robot.
  2. Second, given that the robot is designed for the Chinese market, notifications are also in Chinese. YIKO’s proprietary voice assistant also takes commands only in Chinese. But at least the app’s interface is in English. It’s easy to navigate, you won’t have problems.

And if you’re afraid that Ecovacs will block your Chinese robot from working outside of China, then you have nothing to worry about. Ecovac’s official site states that the company doesn’t prohibit the use of its Chinese products outside China. The main thing is to register an account with a Chinese phone number.

Kit

The robot came in this branded box:

This is the Pro version with a larger kit, which includes:

  1. The vacuum itself with the station.
  2. A power cord with a Chinese plug.
  3. The brand’s detergent.
  4. Two extra bags for the station.
  5. Silicone turbo brush with a lid. The robot comes out the box with a bristle blade installed.
  6. Two extra Hepa-filters.
  7. An extra anti-bacterial sanitizing module in the water tank.
  8. The documents in Chinese.

The box is full, and includes everything you’d need to use this robot comfortably. That’s good!

Appearance

Now let’s see how Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro looks. Let’s start with the robot vacuum itself. It comes in white and black. I received the latter.

Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro: View from above
View from above

There are 2 wall sensors on each side. The ones closer to the center are responsible for neatly sweeping the robot around chair legs, which is a problem with D-shaped robots.

At the front, a camera system is installed to detect and neatly avoid obstacles.

Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro: Camera
Camera

This tech is called AIVI 3D and we previously saw it in Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni. So besides avoiding obstacles, this robot can reflect it’s camera on your phone, which is a deal maker for a lot of people.

You can see that the lidar isn’t on the hull. It was hidden inside and put in the corner. This way, the robot’s height got shorter, from 103 mm (4 In.) to 95 mm (3.7 In.), comparing it with the earlier model. This isn’t that significant though, as other Lidar robots average 96-98 mm (3.7-3.8 In.).

Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro: Lidar on the corner

On top of the body is a Y-shaped panel with a button to start/stop cleaning, as well as speakers, thanks to which YIKO works.

The Control Panel

The top is removable, only held on magnets. Under it there is a power switch, Wi-Fi network reset button, as well as a dirt container. It works on a triple filtration system: using HEPA, foam and mesh filters. The container holds up to 420 ml (14.2 Oz.) of dry dirt. There is a self-cleaning curtain on the side. The water tank is inside the robot. It’s not removable and holds up to 180 ml (6 Oz.) of water, which is pumped automatically at the station through a special attachment.

The robot has 6 anti-fall sensors at the bottom. There’s a carpet sensor next to the swivel brush. The side brush is a three-beam, quick-release brush. The center brush unit is fluid.

“Out of the box” the robot has a bristle-blade brush, which is disassembled on one side to clean out coiled hair and fur. The brush got slightly longer. Its length is about 200 mm (7.8 In.), while the normal brush on the Ecovax robots is about 168 mm (6.6 In.) long.

Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro: Extended turbo brush
Extended turbo brush

Instead of the regular turbo brush, you can install a silicone brush, which comes with an extended version. It’s easier to clean hair and fur and is better for those who have pets.

Mopping is done with two rotating wipes, which can automatically lift 15mm (.6 In.) when on carpets. A record for the end of 2023. The wipes still don’t go to the edges of the body, so there’ll be a blind spot, which I’ll show in my tests. Speaking of the station, Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro self-cleans the dirt bag, washes the wipes with hot water and dries them with warm air.

Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro: Station
Station

The robot’s ramp and the inner tray where the wipes are washed are removable, which is very convenient when cleaning the station. Above is a compartment with a garbage bag. To open it, press on the lid. The bag holds up to 3 liters (.79 G.) of dirt. It’s important to note that the bag has four-layers, as I understand one with silver ions and a black layer of activated charcoal, creating the anti-bacterial sanitization.

Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro: Bag
Bag

Under the top cover are dirty and clean water tanks. The clean water tank has a module for water disinfection. The manufacturer doesn’t tell their volumes, but they’re pretty big, 4-4.5 Liters (1-1.2 G.) each. There’s no detergent tank, thus it must be put in manually.

Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro: The main nodes of the station
The main nodes of the station

If you want, you can connect the station to your water and sewage supply by buying the needed extension kit. It’s important to note that the module is updated and isn’t compatible with previous models, respectively Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro won’t fit other models either. So this module has a compartment for detergent, so that it’s automatically mixed into the water, which is more convenient.

As a result, I can say that Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro got really upgraded from its old man Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni and T20 Pro. I’ll later check if these improvements really mean anything.

Technical features

Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro main features are up on the screen:

  • Battery Li-Ion 6400 mA*h
  • Suction power up to 8300 Pa
  • Work time up to 210 mins
  • dirt container 420 ml (14 Oz.)
  • water tank 180 ml (6 Oz.)
  • Bags in the station ≈ 4 + 4 L (1g+1g).
  • Bag in station: 3 L (.79 G.)
  • Obstacle height up to 22 mm (.86 In.)
  • Robot’s dimensions: 320*95 mm (12.5×3.7 In.)
  • Station’s dimensions: 394*528*444 mm (15.5×20.7×17.4 In.)

What caught my eye immediately is the suction power. I’ll definitely need to check it in the tests. They also increased the battery capacity and the volume of the water tank. This is a plus.

Functions

Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro’s functions include that the robot is controlled through the Ecovacs Home app. I already detailed the problems with the app at the start of the video.

Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro: Functions
Functions

The vacuum’s main features are up on the screen:

  • Self-cleaning.
  • Wipe cleaning on base.
  • Wipes dry with hot air.
  • Object detection.
  • Remote home monitoring through the cameras.
  • Saves multiple maps in memory.
  • 3D-map of the area.
  • Automatically zones the area into rooms.
  • Choose zones and points to clean.
  • Virtual walls and no-go zones (for mopping as well).
  • Reguate suction power.
  • Periodic cloth washing (by area, by time).
  • Cleaning log.
  • Cleaning schedule.
  • User mode.
  • Automatic power increase on carpets.
  • Carpet avoidance while mopping.
  • Auto wipe lift on carpets.

Lots to talk about. All of these functions allow you to flexibly customize your cleaning cycle. Unfortunately, they removed the “Corner Deep Cleaning” mode for cleaning along the baseboard by turning the robot’s rear end when going around the perimeter, like in the X1 Omni and T20 Pro. It’s not clear if it’s because the shape changed, or there wasn’t a market for it, or maybe they just forgot to add it. But now it’s not there and that’s a minus. But there’s a function of remote home tracking, and smart cleaning tech with the help of AI, when the robot automatically determines the cleaning parameters based on the type of rooms and floors.

Testing

And finally, let’s get to testing. First and foremost, let’s check the navigation in a room with obstacles. The robot first goes around the perimeter of the room, then cleans the entire area with a snake like pattern. The legs of the drying rack didn’t give it serious problems, it went around one and ran the other over. It swept around the box and chair legs separately, then returned to the station.

Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro: Navigation
Navigation

As for the rest of the house, the robot cleans room by room around the perimeter, then in a zig-zag. I chose to wash the wipes after each zone, but interestingly, the robot itself realizes how big or small the room is and, due to this, adjusts how often it needs to be washed. This may not be as convenient for someone.

If a person wants the robot to wash the napkins after each zone, it should be possible to change this. In my case, the first time it went to the station it cleaned 4 rooms, 2 of which were really small. That’s about 19 square meters (62 Ft.). Then it cleaned one room and in 26 square meters (85 Ft.) he returned to the station again. And he cleaned this room twice as it decided it needed to. Then it came back to the station after the second cleaning on the 35th square meter (114 Ft.). Then it cleaned the last room. Total apartment of 70 sq.m. (229.6 Ft.), of which it can only use 46 sq.m. (150 Ft.), the robot cleaned in 50 minutes, and washed the cloths three times. Everything looks clean, and the navigation is good. Test passed with flying colors!

Object detection

I tested the object detection system separately. In good light Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro bypassed 5 out of 6 traps, including the fake pet poo. It only chewed the wire on the floor, but it didn’t go into error, which is good. And in total darkness the situation was slightly different. It also carefully bypassed 5 out of 6 traps, but this time he ran over the fake pet poo, but it didn’t chew the wire.

Recognizing objects in good lighting

In the end, the robot cleans and sweeps most items really neatly, and I even thought that the system has become more accurate, which the manufacturer backs up. The function needs more work, Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro identifies items, but does not recognize them. It doesn’t display the item’s icons on the map, as it does with Roborocok and Dreame. So its not really clear if AI is really active here.

Suction power

As for the suction power, its very controversial. It’s claimed as much as 8300 Pa, but in my tests it only sucked dirt out of the 2 mm (.07 In.) and 4 mm (.15 In.) cracks.

Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro: Suction power
Suction power

I did the test several times with different turbo brushes (both silicone and bristle-blade). And then immediately instead of Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro I ran Dreame Bot L30 Ultra, which I tested at the same time. And here Dreame did so much better, sucking out the dirt from the rest of the cracks, including from 10 mm (.4 In.). So it’s not a fluke. But previously released models X1 Omni and T20 Pro showed much better results as well. It’s likely that the new X2 Pro has the same if not greater power, but the brushes stop the airflow. Because of the longer brush, they miscalculated something and as a result- the suction power is lost. Some may call my test biased, but I test based on the outcome, and so I can’t say for sure that the power increased, even if it might have.

Vacuuming

With all this said, the collection quality is actually good. The robot sweeps dirt even in corners, though not always. In the first test with a bristle brush, it swept out one corner, the second not to the end. And here is the condition of the brush, you can see that the hair and hair are wound on it.

Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro: Dry cleaning
Dry cleaning

The second time with the silicone brush, the robot also got most of the dirt, but it didn’t go all the way in the corners. But the silicone brush didn’t wrap hair around itself, which is its main advantage.

The body’s shape allows it to get all up in the corners, but the algorithms are crude, which was noticed by foreign observers. The robot doesn’t always go right into the corner, even if you turn off the object detection system. But when it does, it cleans the corner like this, and that’s cool:

Carpet cleaning

Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro also cleans carpets well, even with a silicone brush. The carpet is thoroughly cleaned! That’s a plus!

Dirt scrubbing

This robot can scrub dirt off with an intermediate visit to the rinse station. This is the main advantage of these robots. The dirt will not be rubbed on the floor during the entire cleaning.

Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro: Dirt scrubbing
Dirt scrubbing

Accordingly, the robot can clean the floor in several approaches, not just wipe it. As predicted, there is a narrow blind spot along the baseboard due to the fact that the wipes do not go to the edge of the case and removed the washing mode along the baseboard. With Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro, the blind spot is just under 3 cm (1.1 In.) wide.

Scrubbing hard stains

Which also made me happy was how well it did scrubbing hard stains, like dried coffee and sauce stains. These wipes press better on the floor, compared with other robots with the same wipes. So its wet mopping is more efficient.

Mopping on carpets

Mopping on carpets lets you choose some modes. The first, and most important, is to automatically pick up wipes when driving over carpets, which will allow Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro to vacuum and wipe the floor at the same time, leaving carpets dry and clean.

Mopping on carpets

You can also enable auto carpet avoidance while mopping, or drive over carpets with rotating wipes that will press against the carpeting. I don’t see the point of using it.

Station effectiveness and maintenance

I also checked the efficiency of the station itself. The quality of washing the wipes, in everyday conditions after washing the floor from dirt, the wipes are dirty. And after rinsing on the wipes, I can say that they are really clean. A bit of dirt is washed out under the pressure of warm water. But I’ll also note that by eye I didn’t notice any difference between washing the wipes with room temperature water and hot water, as in the situation with Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro. Probably, it still exists and it is a small, but plus of the model, against the background of competitors.

Hot air drying of wipes is actually effective. After the drying cycle, the wipes are completely dry and won’t smell bad. That’s a plus!

Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro: The robot at the station
The robot at the station

Station maintenance has also been simplified by refining its design. Now you can remove the ladder for the robot and the tray inside to rinse them in the sink and return them to the station. Very handy! As a reminder, the station can also be connected to the sewer and water lines. How to do this and how the module works, I showed on the example of Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni. I recommend watching the video on the channel. The principle is the same.

Self-cleaning quality

The dirt bag’s self-cleaning quality is close to perfect. I ran the robot in a room with a lot of dirt. He cleaned everything and we can see that the container is full. We return the robot to the station and see that the bag is completely cleaned out after self-cleaning. One small piece of fur was left, but even then, it happened because I took out a full container and pushed some dirt in. If not interfered with, the self-cleaning quality is close to perfect.

Obstacles

The 2 cm (.78 In.) high thresholds are no match for the vacuum. That’s a plus!

Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro: Obstacles

Dark areas

Black surfaces don’t scare it either, it drives over a black mat with no problem. This is another advantage!

Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro: Dark areas

Volume

As for the volume, it’s within 58-72 dB. The volume is quite standard for this model, given the high suction power.

Opinion

Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro was thoroughly reviewed and tested. Our evaluation system gave it 185 points and rose to the top 5 in the overall ranking of tested robot vacuums, moving its predecessor Ecovacs Deebot T20 Pro, which lost only 1 point with a score of 184 points. In the description I’ve posted links to the algorithm and the overall rating of the tested robots.

I’ll highlight the pros and cons, after which I’ll express my own opinion about the robot. I liked the following:

  1. Quality dirt collection on both hard surfaces and carpets.
  2. Better at picking up dirt in corners than most other round robots thanks to the D-shape.
  3. Silicone turbo brush included, which is easier to clean out hair and fur.
  4. Does a good job scrubbing away dirt on the floor.
  5. Availability of a self-cleaning station for dirt, rinsing and drying cloths.
  6. Large tanks in the station.
  7. Multi stage dirt and water sanitation.
  8. The station can be connected to the sewer and water supply by purchasing the needed kit.
  9. Easy to maintain station, thanks to the removable driveway and tray.
  10. Cloths washed with hot water.
  11. High-quality self-cleaning.
  12. Auto wipe lift when driving on carpets. And the wipes are raised higher than any other model.
  13. Less contact with objects thanks to the object detection system.
  14. Remote home tracking feature via phone.
  15. Lots of features in the app to make the robot’s use fluid.
  16. Smart auto cleaning mode, in which the robot independently selects cleaning parameters based on artificial intelligence algorithms.
  17. Not afraid of black carpets.
  18. Good off-road.
  19. Kit is full.
  20. Quality assembly.

As for what could e improved, here’s some points:

  1. The model is designed for the Chinese market, so the app interface is in English, the built-in voice assistant doesn’t work and the robot connects to the app only through a Chinese phone number.
  2. There’s no full-fledged service and warranty support from the manufacturers. Again, due to the fact that it was made for China.
  3. Doesn’t support popular voice assistants.
  4. The claimed suction power wasn’t confirmed in the tests. Although the robot still showed slightly increased power, the result is weak when compared to previous models.
  5. Not able to scrub the area close to the baseboard.
  6. Needs work on the movement algorithm to make it get the dirt in the corners.
  7. There is no detergent auto supply in the standard equipment of the station.
  8. The object detection system still needs improvement. And the implemented system doesn’t prove that the robot recognizes objects on the floor and uses AI.

And so, having sorted out the remarks, here’s my opinion. The first 3 are already typical for Chinese Ecovaxes and many people put up with them, although for a premium robot costing over $1000 it’s not good. The claimed power is one of the main strikes. I’d not want to discourage those who want this robot because of this, and don’t want to upset those who have already ordered it. In fact, Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro cleans both on hard surfaces and carpets. Yes, the power is lost, but in everyday conditions you most likely won’t notice the difference.

But the fact that they removed the mode of washing along the baseboard, or made this function impossible, without offering alternative options for solving the problem – this is a more serious comment. If they add the feature later, cool. If not – the X1 Omni and T20 Pro will be better for mopping.

The next issue – the raw algorithm of approach to corners, which in case of proper implementation could be the main argument in favor of this model, this issue should be solved asap. This is the main feature of the D-shaped robot. And even at the moment, in more than half of the cases the robot goes right into the corner and sweeps out from there. We need to improve the algorithms so that the robot will always perform this task perfectly.

No auto-feed detergent isn’t so terrible, but I don’t understand why they haven’t added a compartment next to the regular tanks yet. And the object detection system, again, Ecovacs for some reason still won’t do things the way Roborock and Dreame do. With icons on the map, photos, and to make the robot even more accurately bypass objects.

In the end, it’s the end of 2023, and Ecovacs made a rushed attempt at a robot. It seems to be a cool robot, and the new shape of the body makes it stand out from the competition, and the minor flaws of past models have been eliminated. The work has been done, but not as well as it could’ve been done.

In any case, Ecovacs Deebot X2 Pro has more pluses than minuses, and I’m sure that some of the comments will be fixed in the next software updates. I believe that this robot deservedly entered the top five in 2023 and I really recommend it for purchase. It’s reliable, efficient and functional. This robot sets new trends in market development.
