Roborock just introduced a new line of robot vacuums in spring 2024, all starting with the letter V. Right now, these V-series bots are only available in China, and it’s not known when they’ll hit the global market.
Roborock V20 is the company’s first vacuum with a built-in lidar sensor. Thanks to this, the robot’s height was cut down to 8.2 cm (3.2 In.) The technology is called PreciSense. It’s a collection of 3d Tof sensors at the front and back of the robot.
At the front of the robot, there’s a bumper packed with some handy tech: cameras to spot obstacles, a light for navigating through the dark, and two cameras that work like the Lidar, shooting out laser dots to help the robot figure out its location on the floor.
And here’s a response to a common question some of you might have: “Will the robot have issues in the dark?” And the answer to that is not at all! These special cameras don’t care about the room’s brightness. These cameras also help recognise up to 73 things on the floor, even floor mirrors.
Roborock continues to include more often that not the DuoRoller, which consists of two rubber rollers-scrapers, which rotate towards each other. Here and in the new V20, the company didn’t forget to install it. But unlike past models, the module got updated to the DuoRoller Riser technology, which can raise the roller while mopping, when it returns to base, and when there’s spilled liquids or stains.
The robot comes with a new feature from Roborock – it chops off hair from the ends of the rollers. Most of the hair ends up in those areas, and gets chopped off instead of building up. Tiny blades hidden in the roller pop open when the lid is tight and secured with clips. And don’t worry about accidentally cutting yourself – if you try to open the lid, the blades disappear to keep you safe while you clean the vacuum.
Another addition is the FlexiArm technology, which now not only refers to the rotating cloth that extends to the wall, but also to the retractable side brush. This is meant to solve the problem of round robots not getting in the corners. When a corner is detected, the robot will automatically extend the side brush.
The latest global update is a new 11,000 Pa digital motor with HyperForce technology. The robot’s suction power wasn’t given by the brand’s representatives.
Roborock has also updated the robot’s self-cleaning station, mainly: wipes are washed in 60 C/140 water, scrapers on the electrified driveway to clean the station’s tray from dirt, as well as a water contamination sensor for re-washing wipes or washing a particularly dirty area in the apartment. Let’s stop more on the last two.
Roborock has updated the wipe tray. It now comes installed with scarpers that rotate independently using the station’s motors to self-clean the bottom of the station.
The second is the water contamination sensor. It lets you see how dirty the water is, and if the station thinks it’s too dirty, it’ll use more water while washing the cloths, both while cleaning and right before drying them. Plus, this sensor doesn’t just help while cleaning by ramping up the cloth washing for tough messes; it also analyzes super dirty spots. So, let’s say your kitchen’s a disaster zone – the robot will sense that, it’ll go back and give it another scrub until the water’s back to clean.
The latest major update to Roborock 2024’s entire line of new robot vacuums is the SmartPlan feature. This mode is similar to CleanGenius from Dreame and automatically selects the best cleaning mode for each separate zone of your area.
The new product is already on sale in China and is available in two versions: classic with tanks for dirty and clean water, as well as Mini version that only connects to the utilities and includes a reusable detergent cartridge.
Important note: the version with water tanks cannot be connected to utility networks, as well as put water tanks in the mini version of the station, be careful when buying. The price for the version with tanks starts from 4,200 yuan and the mini version starts from 4,800 yuan (~ 688 USD).
