Narwal S2 wet and dry vacuum cleaner: new in 2024! What is it capable of?

Narwal S2 News

Narwal just unveiled their new releases for Spring 2024 in their April event. They introduced the Narwal 001, also known as the Narwal Freo Z Ultra, a new robot vacuum cleaner, alongside a new line of cordless vacuums, including the Narwal S2. Let’s break it all down!

The latest in its lineup of vacuums Narwal S2 comes with some pretty major upgrades and unique features that you won’t find in other vacuums. The first major upgrade is the suction power, which was upgraded to 20,000 Pa. That makes it one of the most powerful cordless vacuums on the market, thanks to its new motor.

Besides the power boost, the max cleaning mode got an upgrade too. Now, when you press the trigger under the handle, the vacuum goes into its most powerful mode, which you can only activate manually. In this mode, the vacuum kicks up the following:

  1. The suction power goes up to 20,000 Pa.
  2. The roller gets more water, up to 100 ml (3.4 Oz.) per minute.
  3. The roller spins faster.
  4. More detergent is given.

The cleaning module got an upgrade too, with more pressure on the floor at 20 Newtons (about 2.03 kg/4 lb 7 Oz.). This extra pressure helps wash out the dried stains faster.

We also got to see the new comb that uses its staggered teeth to keep hair from winding around the roller.

What really sets this vacuum apart from the competition is the dirt detection sensor. You might be thinking “but wait, don’t all of the best vacuums have this?” Yes, but Narwal takes a different approach to it. First off, the sensor is right after the roller in the suction pipe, so it catches even the tiniest dirt right away. Plus, it’s got not just infrared lasers but also a blue light with a pick-up sensor that instantly spots dirt and boosts the suction power.

I want to mention that this vacuum has a water disinfection feature. Plus, it’s designed to clean under furniture easily. When you tilt the vacuum 180 degrees, it slightly reduces suction power. This helps prevent the vacuum from blowing away dirt with the air it blows out. The drop in power is too small for you to notice a change in suction. The vacuum is just 15 centimeters ( 5.9 In.) high, so it can fit under most furniture easily.

Here’s another thing that sets the Narwal S2 apart: the volume. At max power, it’s around 70 dB, but in drying mode, it’s just 46 dB.

Now, let’s talk about how the different modes work:

  • Intelligent cleaning – the automatic mode. The vacuum selects the best suction power, detergent and water supply, and roller rotation settings
  • Drying mode – collects liquids without water.
  • Quiet mode – the vacuum runs as quietly as possible without losing efficiency. The volume is only 57dB.
  • Turbo – uses max power to clean heavy dirt.
  • Max mode – uses the max power of 20000 Pa and delivers the highest amount of water and detergent and increases the speed of the roller.

Narwal engineers didn’t just focus on cleaning up messes; they thought about cleaning the vacuum itself too. They put a smart Narwal Ai processor right inside the vacuum. It doesn’t just help with cleaning, but also with self-cleaning and drying the roller. While self-cleaning, the vacuum checks the water it sucks in, like those base stations some vacuums use. If it’s really dirty, it’ll spend more time cleaning, use more water, and add extra detergent.

I’ll note that while self-cleaning, the vacuum rotates the roller in two directions, both clockwise and counterclockwise. This is done to clean the lid covering the roller and also to fluff it up while washing to rinse it from the beginning to the end of the lint.

After the vacuum does its self-cleaning, it kicks into gear to dry and iron the roller all on its own, right inside the vacuum. It uses 65-degree (149 F.) water to wash the roller and then dries it with the same temp. A metal plate and the suction of the hot air are the basis of the drying so the roller dries faster and better. The vacuum sucks the hot air off the roller, drying not just the roller but also the container and filter. And get this: there’s a humidity sensor built in, so it knows exactly when everything’s dry. It adjusts the drying time based on how humid it is. Also, the roller spins different ways and has ridges to prevent hair from tangling, so the lint fluffs up instead of clumping together.

As for the vacuum’s performance, Narwal made adjustments here too. The vacuum weighs only 4.2 kg/9 lbs and has a battery life of 60 minutes. There is a separate tank for the cleaning liquid, the volume of the tank for the clean water is 760 ml (25.6 Oz.) and for dirty water 670 ml (22.65 Oz.). The water is disinfected with silver ions. And a new cleaning system called edge to edge was added with which the vacuum can clean along the baseboard in both directions.

This innovation will be available for purchase in China on May 31, 2024. The price at the time of the article is 2899 yuan (~ 410 USD).
