Hi, everyone! Welcome to Robotobzor! Today for review robot vacuum cleaner called Atvel SmartGyro R80. The price of it is between $260. This model is equipped with a gyroscope for navigation, is suitable for dry and wet cleaning, is controlled via the app and remote control, and has few interesting functions that increase the quality of cleaning. Next, I will test the Atvel SmartGyro R80 in detail and will express my own opinion if it`s worth buying this vacuum cleaner. Let’s start!
Package
Besides the robot vacuum cleaner itself, the contents kit includes:
- Charging station
- Power adapter.
- Combined container for water and dust with installed microfiber cloth.
- Spare napkin.
- Remote controller.
- Operating instructions.
- Additional side brushes – 2 items.
- Additional HEPA filter.
- Brush for cleaning the dust container.
- A tool for cleaning the central brush.
The contents kit is complete, there are all the necessary accessories for the first time of operation of the robot. I would say, the only thing missing is the magnetic tape to restrict movement.
Design
Let`s have a look at the design of the Atvel SmartGyro R80. It has a round shape and made in gray. The plastic is glossy, with a very beautiful coating that shimmers in the sun. Case height is 8 cm.
A soft-touch mechanical bumper is installed at the front. On top we see only one mechanical control button, which is responsible for starting and stopping the cleaning process. The power switch is placed on the side.
The dust container can be removed from the back. It holds up to 500 ml of dry waste. A protective shutter is installed inside to prevent accidental spilling of dust when removing the container. Filtration system based on mesh and HEPA filter.
Instead of a dust collector, you can install a combined container for water and garbage. The napkin is attached to the bottom with velcro and rubber bands on the sides.
Water enters the napkin through 4 holes with dispensers. Inside we see a pump for electronic regulation of the water supply, this is a plus. The tank holds up to 230 ml of water.
The dust collector in the combined container holds up to 220 ml of dry waste. It also has a safety shutter and a dual filtration system.
Let’s see how the Atvel SmartGyro R80 is designed from the bottom. It has 3 fall protection sensors and two quick-detachable side brushes. The central brush is bristly-petal, on one side it can be disassembled to remove coiled hair and wool.
The build quality is pretty good. There are no comments about the vacuum cleaner.
Technical features
The main characteristics of the Atvel SmartGyro R80:
- Battery Li-Ion 2600 mAh.
- Suction power up to 2400 Pa.
- Working time up to 120 min.
- Cleaning area up to 250 sq.m.
- Dustbin volume is 500 ml.
- The volume of the combined container is 230 + 220 ml.
- Obstacle passability up to 15 mm.
- Dimensions: 335*335*80mm.
I want to highlight that the cleaning area is most likely mentioned as ideal – rectangular room without obstacles. In reality, robot vacuum cleaners with a gyroscope can effectively cleaning in areas of no more than 80 square meters, no matter what gyroscope is there. But the rest of the characteristics are quite standard.
Functionality
Let’s move on to an overview of the Atvel SmartGyro R80 functions. As mentioned earlier, the robot vacuum cleaner is controlled through a branded mobile app and a remote control. First, let’s look at the functionality of the app. The robot quickly connects to the network, no problems noticed.
The last built map is displayed on the main working panel, the robot builds it in real time, but does not save it in memory.
In the settings, you can change the name of the robot, set up a cleaning schedule by choosing the time, days of the week, operating mode, suction power and even the water level. You can also view the cleaning log, set the time when the robot should not bother you, turn on / off voice notifications, update the firmware version if necessary, and turn on the search for the robot vacuum cleaner by a sound signal.
Let’s go back to the main work panel. Here you can start manual control, select one of 7 operating modes, adjust the suction power and the level of water supply to the napkin. Speaking of operating modes, in Auto mode, the robot cleans the entire area with a snake moves, then switches to bypassing the perimeter and then starts to move in random order until the battery is discharged, after which it automatically returns to the base for charging. As for me, it is better to use the Gyro mode, in which the robot vacuum cleaner makes a passage with a snake moves, then along the perimeter, after which it immediately returns to the base. There is no difference in the quality of cleaning, but less time is spent on cleaning. Want to highlight Scrubbing mode separately, in which the robot vacuum cleaner moves back and forth and more thoroughly wipes off dirt from the floor, this is a useful mode for those who choose a robot with good quality of wet cleaning.
As for the control from the remote control, it duplicates functions such as setting cleaning according to the schedule, forced return to the base for charging, manual control, start / pause, selecting the cleaning mode, setting the current time and napkin wetting level, as well as adjusting the suction power.
Atvel SmartGyro R80 has all the important functions for a gyro robot. Its functions are good for maintenance of cleanliness in the house. It is also important to note that when driving onto carpets, this robot vacuum cleaner automatically increases the suction power, which is a plus.
Testing
Navigation
And finally, let’s move on to the tests. First of all, let’s check the navigation of the Atvel SmartGyro R80 in a room with obstacles. The robot is operating in Gyro mode. So, first, he goes through the entire available area with a snake moves, then drives along the perimeter and automatically returns to the base. The robot did not sweep around the chair legs and the box, but it did not get stuck on the legs of the dryer. In general, navigation is standard, as for a robot vacuum cleaner with a gyroscope.
As for navigation within the house, the situation is similar – first there is a snake moves cleaning, then the perimeter passage. But it is important to note that the accuracy of building a map is high, as for a gyroscopic robot. And the cleaning speed is high. The most important that there are no uncleared areas left. This test passed successfully.
Suction power
But the suction power is quite standard. The Atvel SmartGyro R80 was able to suck out debris from a 2 mm deep slot, which is enough to keep the house clean.
Dry cleaning on laminate
Let’s check the quality of dry cleaning. The laminate had wool, hair, small debris, cat food, filler and ground coffee in the corners as imitation dust. So Atvel SmartGyro R80 was able to completely collect debris from the stand and even clean out the corners, despite the fact that the robot is round. The quality of dry cleaning is very high. Hair and wool are wrapped around the center and side brushes, but most of the debris is collected in the dust collector. Test passed successfully!
Carpet cleaning
The situation is similar with carpet cleaning. The same rubbish was on the carpet and the robot vacuum cleaner cleaned it well. An insignificant part of the hair remained, but this is because this place the robot passed only 1 time. With a double pass, nothing would be left for sure.
Wet cleaning
The quality of wiping off dried dirt is also very high. The stand is practically clean, there is only a small strip along the plinth, which robot vacuum cleaners cannot wash due to design features.
And here’s how the Atvel SmartGyro R80 handles tile and laminate cleaning. The footprint is steady, and water flows pretty enough on the floor in maximum mode. The Atvel SmartGyro R80 has a good wet cleaning performance.
Passage of obstacles
The robot is able to move over 15 mm high lanes, but it cannot overcome 20 mm, which is not very good. Well, in fact, the manufacturer mentioned the passage of up to 15 mm only.
Passage of dark surfaces
Atvel SmartGyro R80 is not afraid of dark surfaces and rides freely through a black rug, this is a plus.
Noise level
And finally, we measure the noise level of the robot in different modes. In Scrubbing mode, the noise level is within 54-57 dB. At the minimum suction power, the noise level rises to 62-64 dB, in the Auto mode it reaches 66 dB, and at the maximum power the peak value was 72 dB. Yes, the noise level is above average, although the suction power is standard. This is important to consider.
Summing up
The Atvel SmartGyro R80 was reviewed and tested in detail. According to our rating system, it scored 52 out of 100 points and, as for a gyro robot, this is an excellent result!
The overall rating of models that passed the Robotobzor test https://robotobzor.com/ratings/general-rating-of-robot-vacuum-cleaners.html.
I will share my opinion about this model. What I liked:
- Simultaneous dry and wet cleaning.
- Good navigation.
- High quality cleaning.
- Control via app and remote control.
- Advanced wet cleaning mode.
- Good equipment.
- Good build quality.
- The robot is not afraid of dark coatings.
- Automatic power increase on carpets.
Disadvantages that I noticed:
- Increased noise level during operation.
- The robot cannot overcome 2 cm sills.
- There is no way to limit the cleaning areas.
Well, the disadvantages are not so serious and the advantages of the Atvel SmartGyro R80 are more valuable compared to the disadvantages. So I definitely recommend this robot vacuum cleaner for purchase if you are considering an option for a small area and price within $250-300. Yes, for that money, you can choose a robot with a camera for navigation and advanced functions when working with a map, but this model has a well-implemented wet cleaning, there is a guarantee and service support. But it`s up to you to decide for yourself what is more important for you.
