Xiaomi Lydsto W2: top-end feature set for reasonable money

Lydsto W2 Reviews

Hello everyone! Welcome to the Robotobzor! Today we will review the Lydsto W2 Robot Vacuum Cleaner. The flagship of the company at the end of 2022. The $650 to $800 device has a lidar for navigation, two rotating mopping pads behind the central brush, and most importantly, a combined station for self-cleaning the dust collector, as well as rinsing mopping pads. In general, a number of advanced solutions that improve the quality of cleaning and minimize the maintenance of the robot vacuum cleaner. Next, I will test Lydsto W2 in detail, after which I will express my own opinion whether this robot is worth buying in 2023. Let’s go!

Design

Now let’s have a look at how Lydsto W2 is designed. Let’s start the review with the robot vacuum cleaner itself. It is available in white. The body shape is oval, not round. The robot is slightly elongated. The soft-touch mechanical bumper has two wall sensors on different sides and an obstacle detection sensor in the center.

On top of the control panel there are 3 mechanical control buttons. The lidar is equipped with a spring-loaded cover that prevents robot from getting stuck under the furniture.

The dust collector is located under the top cover. It is designed for 350 ml of dry waste. Inside we see a curtain through which the garbage is sucked into a bag in the station. Filtration system based on HEPA filter only. Behind the case we see a channel for unloading garbage. There is no water tank in the robot. Mopping pads are wetted only at the station.

There are 4 fall protection sensors on the bottom of the case. Next to the swivel roller is a carpet detection sensor. This is a plus. There are two brushes. This is a minor, but still an advantage over analogues.

The block of the central brush is floating. The turbo brush itself is bristly-petal. On both sides, it is disassembled for cleaning from wound hair and wool.

Holders with mopping pads are conveniently attached to the robot by magnets. But the mopping pads are attached to the holders with Velcro.

Lydsto W2: Mopping pads
Mopping pads

Again, same as analogues, the Lydsto W2 mopping pads do not come out to the edges of the case, so I predict that the robot is not able to wipe dirt close to the plinth and furniture. This will be verified during tests.

Let’s move on to the overview of the station. It is equipped with an informative display and touch control buttons, namely: Start / Pause, forced return to the station, turning on the rinsing function of mopping pads and turning on the self-cleaning function. It is very comfortable.

Lydsto W2: Station
Station

Under the top cover there are reservoirs and a bag for unloading dry waste, next to which a tool for cleaning the robot is conveniently stored. The bag holds up to 3 liters of dry waste. Tanks for clean and dirty water hold up to 4 liters of water. The capacity is slightly increased. Well, it’s convenient that in the clean water tank there is a hole with a sealed valve for pouring water without removing this tank.

The platform for the arrival of the robot is removable, which is very good. Much easier to clean if necessary.

It is also worth highlighting several features of this station. Firstly, hot air drying of mopping pads is provided, and the implemented drying really effectively copes with its task. After few hours of drying mopping pads are dry. Secondly, a waste sterilization system has been installed inside the station. I cannot verify the effectiveness of disinfection. The next feature is the disinfection of water with silver ions. How exactly this is implemented, and what kind of water is disinfected, I did not find this information. But something was introduced and this is a plus comparing with competitors. Well, the last, fourth feature of the station – rinsing of mopping pads can occur both with water at room temperature and with hot water, which the station heats up to 50 °C. In theory, this can slightly improve the quality of rinsing mopping pads and the quality of wiping off dirt, which will be verified in tests.

In general, the robot itself is executed quite standard, when compared with analogues. But the manufacturer worked on the station and it was done very competently. This is a plus.

Lydsto W2: Functionality
Functionality

Here I would just like to draw attention to the fact that Lydsto W2 has its own approach to setting the frequency of rinsing mopping pads. You can choose between 6, 9 and 12 minutes. This is not always convenient. For example, other brands offer the option of rinsing mopping pads after each cleaned area, or across a selected cleaning area.

Otherwise, the functionality is quite diverse and allows you to flexibly configure the cleaning parameters. Again, the station has more interesting features, not the robot.

Testing

Video review:

And finally, let’s move on to the tests. Let’s check out the Lydsto W2 navigation in the room with obstacles. The robot vacuum cleaner first passes around the perimeter, then cleans the entire available area with a snake. It carefully avoided the legs of the dryer. At the same time, separately swept around the box and the legs of the chairs, after which returned to the station. Test passed successfully.

Navigation in a room with obstacles

Speaking of navigating within the home, the robot vacuum cleaner cleans room after room around the perimeter, then with a snake. Every 12 minutes, as I noticed, it returns to the station and rinses mopping pads, after which proceeds to clean from the place where previously finished. There are no uncleaned areas left, navigation is good for this model!

Suction power

But the suction power in fact turned out to be quite standard. The robot vacuum cleaner was only able to suck out debris from a 2mm gap. It seemed that it even partially sucked out the debris from the 4 mm slot, but it was just a mote in the color of the stand that got into the slot, unfortunately. Moreover, the robot makes quite a loud noise at maximum power and it might seems that it is very powerful. But in reality, the power did not meet expectations. However, it will be enough to maintain cleanliness in the house and mainly cleaning on hard surfaces.

Dry cleaning

The quality of dry cleaning on hard surfaces is high. The robot vacuum cleaner has completely picked up the debris from the floor. And even better than many other robots swept in the corners. It is worth noting here that the side brush itself goes into the corner more tightly and, when turning, the robot blows debris through the ventilation holes of the main suction motor. It is the blown air. Well, it’s actually better than nothing😊 Part of the hair is wrapped around the side and central brushes. However, most of the debris is collected in the dust collector. Test passed successfully!

Carpet cleaning

The same rubbish was scattered on the carpet. And I can say that Lydsto W2 cleaned the carpet well. Actually, did a great job with this!

Carpet cleaning

Mopping and carpets

Speaking of wet cleaning in the presence of carpets, Lydsto W2 cannot automatically raise mopping pads when driving on carpet, as for example, Dreame Bot L10s Ultra or Mijia OMNi does this, so you can either run it over the entire area so that the robot drives with wet mopping pads onto carpets. Or turn on the automatic carpet avoidance mode and the robot vacuum cleaner will detect the carpet in a timely manner and go around it without wetting it with mopping pads. This is a plus.

Rubbing off the dirt

This robot vacuum copes with rubbing off the dirt, considering several intermediate rides to the station for rinsing mopping pads. This is the main advantage of such robots. Dirt will not be rubbed on the floor during the entire cleaning. So, in several approaches, the robot can really wash the floor, and not just wipe it. As predicted, a narrow section of the floor along the plinth remained unwashed due to the fact that mopping pads do not come out to the edges. This is a problem with all robot vacuum cleaners that have been tested.

Removing complex dirt

But the Lydsto W2 has difficulties with rubbing off dried coffee and sauce stains. It was able to scrub the coffee stains, but coped with the sauce only partially. In defense of the robot, I can say that, in principle, it is not intended for such purposes. The test only shows that the pressure of the wipes on the floor is not as strong as in specialized floor polishers. The result is approximately at the level of the closest analogue of Xiaomi Mijia Self-Cleaning Robot Vacuum-Mop Pro, but it seems that Lydsto mopping pads are pressed even weaker. Well, or the sauce this time got more strong. In general, scrubbing stains is not robot`s strongest feature. But Lydsto W2 is able to vacuum at the same time and wipe the floor, as well as perform high-quality wet cleaning over large areas. For living conditions, I can still call this robot vacuum cleaner washing. Especially if you set the rinsing interval for mopping pads – every 6 minutes.

Rinse mopping pads

I will demonstrate the quality of rinsing mopping pads after the test with rubbing off the dirt. So after the last cleaning cycle, condition of the mopping pads was quite bad. The robot vacuum cleaner returned to the station and rinsed them. Visually, they really became much cleaner. I even tested these mopping pads afterwards under clean running water. The minimum amount of dirt is washed out. We can say that the station effectively copes with rinsing mopping pads.

Self-cleaning quality

The self-cleaning quality of the dust collector is also close to ideal. I started the robot vacuum cleaner in a room with a lot of trash. It cleaned everything in a double pass, blowing debris a little from side to side. We see that the dust collector is tightly packed. We return the robot vacuum cleaner to the station and we see that the dust collector is completely cleaned after self-cleaning. Self-cleaning is well implemented.

Passage of obstacles

Despite the fact that some stores indicate obstacle passage up to 15 mm, in reality, Lydsto W2 was able to overcome 20 mm sills without any problems, and with mopping pads installed. The passage ability is good for this robot.

Passage of obstacles
Passage of obstacles

Passage of dark surfaces

But Lydsto W2 is afraid of dark surfaces, defining them as height differences, like most other robot vacuum cleaners. This is important to consider.

Noise level

And finally, we measure the noise level of the robot vacuum cleaner in different modes. In Quiet mode, it is in the range of 58-60 dB. In standard mode increases up to 62 dB. In Powerful mode, the noise level rises to 71 dB, and at maximum power the peak value was 73 dB. As I said earlier, the noise of the Lydsto W2 seems to be very powerful, but in reality this power is lost somewhere.

Summing up

The Lydsto W2 Robot Vacuum Cleaner was reviewed and tested in detail. According to our rating system, he was able to score 144 points and enter the top ten tested robot vacuum cleaners in 2022.

Overall rating of robot vacuum cleaners: https://robotobzor.com/ratings/general-rating-of-robot-vacuum-cleaners.html.

I will share my own opinion about the tested robot. What I liked:

  1. The presence of a station for self-cleaning and rinsing mopping pads.
  2. Ergonomic and efficient design of the station (this includes a removable platform, efficient drying of mopping pads, hot water rinsing, sterilization, and even a control panel on the body). In general, the station is cool!
  3. Good navigation.
  4. Simultaneous dry and wet cleaning.
  5. High-quality wet cleaning on large areas.
  6. Good quality dry cleaning on different surfaces.
  7. High-quality self-cleaning and rinsing of mopping pads.
  8. A large number of functions for flexible adjustment of cleaning parameters.
  9. Good passage ability.
  10. The optimal price, given the presence of a lidar and a combined station.

Speaking about the shortcomings, I would like to highlight:

  1. Mopping pads do not rise when driving on carpets.
  2. The robot vacuum cleaner is afraid of dark surfaces.
  3. There is no object detection system.
  4. The claimed suction power was not confirmed in real tests.
  5. There is no way to connect the station to the sewerage and water supply.
  6. Does not clean a narrow zone along a plinth.

Overall, for its price, this is definitely one of the best robot vacuum cleaners in 2022, even considering all the comments, some of which are common to most robots, and some of which are minor, again considering the price. Definitely Lydsto W2 deserves attention and is recommended for purchase in 2023, especially during the sales period, when the price drops to a record 550-600$.

On this note, I would like to end the review. If you have any questions, ask them in the comments below. Happy tech shopping. Bye!
